In the past week, both the Department of the Interior and the Department of Agriculture have issued memoranda aimed at improving how the federal government organizes and delivers wildfire response. SANTA FE — The Sims Marina Boat Ramp at Navajo Lake State Park is closed until further notice.

A recent intense storm damaged the boat ramp, creating a potential safety hazard for park visitors. 

Staff from the State Parks Division and the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation are working with professional engineers to assess the damage and develop a plan to return the ramp to safe operation for launching and loading of vessels.

Kiwanis To Host Aluminum Collection Saturday Sept. 20

KIWANIS CLUB News:

On Saturday, Sept. 20, the Los Alamos Kiwanis Club of Los Alamos will be collecting and buying aluminum cans to be sent for recycling.

The collection location is the parking lot of the First United Methodist Church on Diamond Drive (near Sullivan Field).

Collection hours are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The community is encouraged to bring the aluminum cans they’ve had accumulating and help support our environment and the Kiwanis. Read More

When you start seeing your breath in the early morning hours it is a sure sign that fall is just around the corner and summer is coming to an end. 

Fall is a beautiful t ice to be outdoors. The changing colors of the aspen trees adds a burst of golden color to the mountains.  

Brown trout and brook trout spawn in the fall. The males will develop brighter colors and, in some cases, hooked jaws (kypes). Fishing for these species should pick up soon. It is a good time to perhaps hook into that lunker brown trout that yo I’ve been trying to catch.   Read More
