Winter Storm Warning In Effect Until 6 a.m. Saturday

A Winter Storm Warning for snow means severe winter weather conditions will make travel very hazardous or impossible. If you

must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency. The latest road conditions for New Mexico can be obtained by calling 511 or 1.800.432.4269.

The National Weather Service in Albuquerque has issued a three-day forecast that includes a 100 percent chance of snow tonight in the Los Alamos area. The snow could be heavy at times with a total nighttime snow accumulation of 4 to 8 inches possible.

Get those skis and snowboards ready … Pajarito Mountain kicks off the ski season this Saturday, Dec. 29.

Pajarito will have approximately 80 percent of its terrain open, including the locals’ favorites like the Fab Four serviced by five lifts. Pajarito received 14 inches of snow with this latest storm, for a total of nearly three feet of snow during the month of December.

Apollo 8, the first manned mission to the moon, entered lunar orbit Dec. 24, 1968, Christmas Eve 50 years ago. It was halfway through the Cold War.
 
That evening, the astronauts—Commander Frank Borman, Command Module Pilot Jim Lovell, and Lunar Module Pilot William Anders—held a live broadcast from lunar orbit. They showed their pictures of the Earth and moon as seen from their spacecraft.
