Game And Fish Investigates Fish Die Off

QUEMADO – The New Mexico Department of Game and Fish is investigating a fish die off at Quemado Lake, following reports earlier this week that fish in the lake were dying.

The die off affected multiple species including tiger muskies, goldfish, grass carp, crayfish and fathead minnows and is being attributed to low oxygen levels.

“Due to recent weather patterns across the state, including drought and high temperatures, die offs have also been noted in the Pecos River, Coyote Creek, Rancho Grande Ponds and areas around Elephant Butte,” said Eric Frey, sportfish program manager. Read More

Water Main Break Near Area Of Golf Course

Department of Public Utilities crews responded to a water main break at about 7 p.m. today in the area of the golf course that is sending water into the nearby canyon. Superintendent Sammy Maestas, center, and his crew are working on Arizona Street and 35th Street to locate the source of the breakage and make repairs. DPU spokesperson Julie Williams Hill said some residents are reporting no water and others are reporting low water pressure. Update: Sarca Fire Burns 178 Acres … 60% Contained

Lightning sparked the Sarca Fire July 7  in the Agua Sarca drainage area of the Pecos Wilderness – Santa Fe National Forest. The fire has now consumed 178 acres of Ponderosa Pine.

Weather: 60 percent chance of rain tonight and 70 percent tomorrow with possible lightning.
 
Situation: Fire behavior is minimal. Firefighters were able to walk the perimeter of the fire and put check lines in place to reduce forward movement of the fire, which is in a northerly direction.

Utility Tree Trimming In White Rock Week Of Aug. 13

DPU News:

Allied Tree Services, under contract with the Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities, will be conducting tree trimming commencing the week of Aug. 13. Allied Tree Services will be trimming trees from around power lines in the area of Rover Boulevard and adjacent streets in White Rock.

Crews will remain in the area for approximately three weeks.

After a start and then a stop, the Los Alamos County’s bike flow trail project is back in motion.

Open Space Specialist Eric Peterson said Tuesday a new request for proposals (RFP) was awarded to Mountain Capital, LLC. The company is tasked with evaluating the original proposed site for the flow trail, Bayo Canyon, as well as evaluating alternative sites that meet the criteria for a bike flow trail.
