NNSA, Air Force Complete Two B61-12 Life Extension Program Test Flights At Tonopah Test Range

WASHINGTON, D.C.  The Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration (DOE/NNSA) and the U.S Air Force announced the completion of two qualification flight tests of the B61-12 gravity bomb at the Tonopah Test Range in Nevada.
 
Completed Nov. 7-8, these tests continue a series of qualification flight tests that will be conducted over the next three years. 
 
“These tests continue to demonstrate that the B61-12 meets requirements and marks another on-time achievement for the B61-12 Life Extension Program,” said Brig.

Voices Of Los Alamos Targets Chromium Plume Safety

Because the existence of a chromium plume in the regional aquifer below Sandia and Mortendad Canyons has been a source of concern for citizens of northern New Mexico, Voices of Los Alamos asked experts to discuss the problem at a Nov. 27 meeting.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Senators Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) and Dean Heller (R-Nev.) led a group of senators to introduce a bill to reauthorize the Federal Land Transaction Facilitation Act (FLTFA).
 
Before it expired in 2011, FLTFA allowed the Bureau of Land Management, the U.S. Forest Service, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and the National Park Service in the western United States to use the proceeds from sales of certain federally designated areas to protect lands of exceptional conservation value.

LANL FY2017 Hazardous Waste Facility Noncompliance Numbers Decline

Los Alamos National Laboratory had 25 noncompliance reports under its Hazardous Waste Facility Permit from the New Mexico Environment between Oct. 1, 2016 and Sept. 30, according to a report filed Nov. 28 with state.

The number is down from 100 instances in 2016 and 400 in 2015. The report also states that there were no releases from a permitted unit that could have posed a threat to human health or the environment.
