Explore The Lives Of Stars With PEEC & Astrophysicist Galen Gisler At Los Alamos Nature Center Planetarium

PEEC News:

The Pajarito Environmental Education Center (PEEC) invites curious minds to journey through the cosmos at the Los Alamos Nature Center’s planetarium for a captivating program: “Stellar Lifecycles:, taking place 7-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 12.

Led by PEEC Board Member and astrophysicist Galen Gisler, this family-friendly presentation explores the fascinating question: What can we learn from the light of stars? Using only the light that reaches Earth, scientists over the past two centuries have uncovered the secrets behind the lives of stars — from their formation in stellar nurseries to their dramatic deaths as supernovae, white dwarfs, or black holes.

Gisler will guide the audience through the techniques developed in the 19th and 20th centuries that have helped scientists decipher the hidden properties of stars, including why some appear red and dim while others shine blue and bright. Attendees will discover how advancements in physics and astronomy have revealed the life stories of the stars that fill the night skies.

This program is recommended for children ages 8 and up and not suited for children under 4. Tickets are $8 for adults and $6 for children and can be reserved online at peecnature.org/events.
