FSN News:
Family Strengths Network (FSN) invites parents and caregivers to register for three FREE parenting classes that will start in February, March, and April. All of these classes will be facilitated by Brandi Seekins, LMSW.
Seekins stated, “Parenting classes are my favorite to facilitate. I love seeing the ‘aha’ moments and the new perspectives parents receive in class. The insight and making sense of their relationships can strengthen the bond with their children. Parenting is a journey and having others walk with you can make the hard moments more bearable. I have witnessed parents share personal struggles in class and find support from other parents who say ‘me too, I get it, you are not alone.’ The saying, ‘It takes a village to raise a child’ continues to hold true. In times when our bandwidth is stretched to the limit, I know signing up for a parenting class feels like one more thing, but if you want some extra compassion and support for the challenges that parenting can bring, I encourage you to sign up for a class.”
Parents & Preschoolers
This parent and child bonding class aligns with Circle of Security (knowledge of Circle of Security is helpful but not required) and provides lessons to support attachment, attunement, and the foundation of the Circle. The class is designed for a parent/caregiver and their child age 1-4 years old to attend together. Limited space is available.
Two sessions to choose from: 9-10 a.m., Tuesdays Feb. 6-27 OR 9-10 a.m., Tuesdays April 2-30 (no class 4/16). Takes place at FSN (3540 Orange St. Los Alamos)
Circle of Security
At times all parents feel lost or without a clue about what our child might need from us. Imagine what it might feel like if you were able to make sense of what your child was really asking from you. The Circle of Security Parenting™ program is based on decades of research about how secure parent-child relationships can be supported and strengthened.
12-1 p.m., Thursdays Feb. 8-March 14. Takes place virtually via Zoom.
Learning Objectives of the Program:
- Understand your child’s emotional world by learning to read the emotional needs
- Support your child’s ability to successfully manage emotions
- Enhance the development of your child’s self esteem
- Honor your innate wisdom and desire for your child to be secure
Parenting in the Screen Age
In this class, parents/caregivers of youth ages 10+ will learn: A roadmap for productive conversations around screen time, ways to engage your child in creating boundaries around mass media and social media, and tools to set screen time limits that include your teen’s voice and limit sneaking behavior and arguing. Thanks to Los Alamos JJAB for sponsoring this class! Mondays, 12-1 PM, from March 4-April 15 (no class 3/25). Takes place virtually via Zoom.
All of these classes are free to attend but registration is required, which can be done here. If you do not have one already, you’ll be asked to create an account with FSN.
