Scenes Of Protest This Morning Against Termination Of Unvaccinated Employees At Los Alamos National Laboratory

The scene of a protest underway this morning on N.M. 4 near Pajarito Road. Protestors are voicing opposition to Los Alamos National Laboratory’s (LANL) COVID-19 vaccine mandate. My column from the last week of September focused on stress, head forward posture or ‘tech neck’ and impaired breathing that I see regularly in the clinic.

This biomechanical issue is commonly responsible for tension headaches, neck, jaw, shoulder and upper back pain. New Mexico Extends Indoor Mask Requirement Regardless Of Vaccination Status Through At Least Nov. 12

STATE News:

SANTA FE – The statewide requirement that face masks be worn in all indoor public spaces, with only limited exceptions and regardless of vaccination status, will be extended, the Office of Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham announced today.

The New Mexico Department of Health re-implemented the mask requirement in August in an effort to stem the state’s rising tide of COVID-19 infections and hospitalizations.

SANTA FE — State health officials announced 879 additional COVID-19 cases today in New Mexico.

Los Alamos County reported 15 new cases today, bringing the total to 766 people who have tested positive for COVID-19. (County totals are subject to change upon further investigation and determination of residency of individuals positive for COVID-19.)

Local Drive-Thru Adult Flu Shot Clinic Saturday Oct. 23

Community Health News:

The Los Alamos Heart Council and Los Alamos Medical Center are sponsoring a Free Flu Shot Clinic 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 23 at the back parking lot of the UNM-Los Alamos campus.

EMNRD’s Oil Conservation Division Settles Enforcement Action With Enterprise Field Services, LLC For Failing To Report Major Release/Falsely Certifying A Closure Report

STATE News:

SANTA FE — The Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Department’s (EMNRD) Oil Conservation Division (OCD) announces that it has settled a notice of violation (NOV) issued to Enterprise Field Services, LLC (Enterprise) for failing to give timely notice and to submit proper documentation for the closure of a release at the Oxy Sand Dunes North Compressor Station (Oxy Station).

To settle the alleged violations Enterprise agreed to pay a civil penalty of $90,000 and to take actions to prevent the violations from occurring again.

NMED & DOH Offer Free Domestic Water Well Tests In Taos

TAOS — The New Mexico Environment Department (NMED) and New Mexico Department of Health (DOH) are hosting a free domestic well water testing event Oct. 16 in Taos.

Surveys show the majority of New Mexico’s private well users haven’t had their water tested, even though most do not have water treatment systems installed.

To save consumers money – tests are valued at around $150 – and to educate the public about safe drinking water, NMED and DOH are hosting a free well water testing event Oct. 16 while adhering to COVID-Safe Practices to protect staff and all community members who participate. Read More

SANTA FE — Friday, the New Mexico Department of Health (DOH) announced that free COVID-19 printed materials are available to New Mexico businesses, organizations, community members and schools.

Individuals can choose from three different kits, which include banners, posters, flyers and postcards.
