Heinrich Introduces Coronavirus Community Relief Act To Provide Federal Assistance For Localities Under 500,000

WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Sen. Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) on Wednesday introduced the Coronavirus Community Relief Act.

This legislation would provide $250 billion in stabilization funds geared towards localities with populations under 500,000 that are struggling in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Communities across the United States, such as smaller counties, cities, and towns, are currently dealing with COVID-19-related costs that include deploying emergency operations, public service announcements, and telework services.

Governor Extends Modified Gallup Emergency Order

SANTA FE – Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham today will extend a modified emergency declaration requested by the mayor of Gallup through noon on Sunday, May 10, as that city continues to work to contain the COVID-19 virus.

The extended order means businesses will continue to be closed 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.; only two people may travel together in a car; and Gallup residents should remain at home except for emergency outings through noon Sunday, May 10.

State Of New Mexico Feeding Thousands Of Children, Seniors, Tribal Members During COVID-19 Pandemic

SANTA FE – State government agencies have delivered more than 5.4 million meals to children and youth, more than 293,000 meals to seniors and, separately, more than 400,000 pounds of food items to those communities most in need throughout New Mexico since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic and the initial issuance of “stay at home” directives.
