NMDOH Confirms First Measles Case In State

NMDOH News:
 
SANTA FE The New Mexico Department of Health (NMDOH) announced Friday that it has confirmed a case of measles in a one-year-old child from Sierra County. This is the first measles case in New Mexico since December 2014.
 
Measles is highly contagious and is easily transmitted person-to-person via droplets or through the air. Early symptoms of measles include: fever, red eyes, runny nose, and cough. NMDOH Probes Suspected Case Of Wound Botulism

SANTA FE The New Mexico Department of Health is investigating a case of apparent wound botulism.
 
A 30-year-old male resident of Santa Fe County is hospitalized with suspected wound botulism. This is the first case of wound botulism that NMDOH has been notified of this year.
 
The last in-state case of wound botulism occurred in 2018 in Doña Ana County. The suspected source of infection is contaminated black tar heroin.

Kiwanis: Dr. Paul Daly Addresses Measles Outbreak

Dr. Paul Daly, a physician at Los Alamos National Laboratory speaks about the current status of measles in the U.S. during Tuesday’s Kiwanis Club’s meeting at Trinity on the Hill Episcopal Church. Dr. Daly reported so far this year there have been 704 cases of measles in the U.S. However, no cases have been reported in Los Alamos or elsewhere in the state. Measles, Daly said, is highly contagious to those who are not immune.The virus is spread through coughing or sneezing. Symptoms can include a high fever, conjunctivitis and a rash.
