Los Luceros Historic Site is celebrating its wild and woolly Navajo Churro sheep herd during spring Sheep Shearing Day at First Sunday Dawn ’til Dusk, 7 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. April 7.
Kerry Mauer will demonstrate an old-fashioned method of sheep shearing using double bow shears. Los Luceros Instructional Coordinator Rebecca Ward will give a talk about the history of Navajo Churro sheep and their importance to New Mexico and Indigenous history.
Needle felting and drop spinning workshops will be offered (registration required). Food trucks Manko (Native American fusion) and Eat Cute Bakery will be on site for the day.

Enjoy a day of old-fashioned sheep shearing, fiber arts workshops, and discussion. Entrance into the site is free today for New Mexico residents with ID.
