Gov. Susana MartinezSTATE News:
SANTA FE ― Tuesday, Gov. Susana Martinez announced that two fugitives from the state’s Corrections Department have recently been captured since the Governor announced the state would join the Analysis Led Recidivism Team (ALeRT) initiative Aug. 10.
“Getting criminals off our streets is important to keeping our families and communities safe,” Martinez said. “By working more closely with local leaders and law enforcement we’re tracking down more fugitives and putting them back where they belong –behind bars.”
Andrew Lucero was arrested Aug. 24 by the Albuquerque Police Department. He is back behind bars and facing new charges of receiving and transferring a stolen motor vehicle, possession of burglary tools, and drug possession.
Jonathan Griego was arrested Aug. 29 by the New Mexico Corrections Department’s Security Threat Intelligence Unit. Griego was on probation for possession of a controlled substance, forgery, identity theft and conspiracy to commit forgery. He is back behind bars pending probation violation.
“When we get fugitives off the street our families and communities are safer,” Corrections Department Secretary David Jablonski said. “We’ll keep doing all we can to work with all our law enforcement partners to search for and find more of these fugitives who are on the run from the law.”
ALeRT is a multi-agency collaboration among police and prosecutors from several local, state, and federal law enforcement entities whose goal is to identify, apprehend and aggressively prosecute serious repeat offenders in Bernalillo County.
