SPORTS News:
The Los Alamos High School Hilltopper Girls Soccer team moved on to the State Semifinals after a commanding 3-0 victory over the Artesia Bulldogs in last Friday’s quarterfinal match. The vistory extended the Hilltoppers’ winning streak to eight straight games – all shutouts with zero goals allowed.
The scoring opened with a goal by sophomore Rafa Rocha, who finished a ball that bounced around the box following a corner kick. The second goal came from senior Dayja Fellers, receiving a well-placed pass from freshman Addie DeBurgomaster and driving to goal 1-on-1 with a defender before finishing. The final goal of the night was scored by junior Kylee Lovato, who capitalized on a free kick.
While Artesia was held to zero shots on goal, freshman goalkeeper Sarah Price remained focused throughout the match and served as a reliable outlet to build possession from the back.
The defensive line delivered a standout performance, anchored by center backs sophomore Jayden Krupp and junior Kylee Lovato, whose calm composure and strong tackles set the tone, while outside backs junior Angelie Echave and sophomore Payton Sutherland provided critical contributions in defensive duties and the attacking transition. 8th grader Maren Dixon also proved to be a key contributor with relentless effort and versatility across multiple roles throughout the match.
With a current record of 14-6-1, Los Alamos enters the semifinal round with strong momentum, following an undefeated district season (6-0) and the title of 4A-2 District Champions.
The Hilltoppers faced Hope Christian Tuesday, Oct. 28, and lost in the State Semifinal.
