Volleyball is a momentum sport and Thursday evening the Topper volleyball team continued to roll following up on Wednesday’s 3-0 defeat of district foe Capital with a victory over arch-rival the Academy Chargers at Griffith gym.

The game scores were 25-20, 25-21 and 25-14. 

The Toppers scored 20 points off of Sierra Foley’s serve. Foley also had 16 kills. Brianna Montano led with 18 kills. The kills resulted for excellent sets by co-captain Samantha Melton and passing from the Toppers back row.  

The Toppers scored 8 points of the serve of senior Noelle Gallegos. Gallegos also had a block kill just when it looked like Academy was beginning to catch fire. 

Senior Ashlynn Trujillo came out of nowhere to dig a dink by the Chargers. That dink went over the Toppers formidable blockers at the net. This was very much a team victory for the Toppers.

Saturday the Toppers travel to Farmington to take on the 12th-ranked Scorpions.
