The Los Alamos High School football team came home and sent the Capital Jaguars packing.
The Hilltoppers dominated the visiting Jaguars on homecoming night, scoring twice in the opening quarter and twice in the second quarter to trounce the Jaguars 41-7 Friday at Sullivan Field.
The annual homecoming game proved to be a big night for receiver Dylan Baca. Baca caught two long touchdown passes, one from Hayden Watkins in the first half and one from Caleb Taylor in the second half, en route to 200 yards receiving.
In all, Los Alamos (5-0) rolled up 471 yards total offense to trounce Capital (1-4) and pick up its second District 1 win in as many chances.
Baca’s second touchdown, an 82-yard slant route where he blew right through the Capital secondary, answered the lone Jaguar score of the game.
The Jaguars were overwhelmed by the Hilltopper defense for the first half. The Jaguars did finally get some offense going in the second half, although much of that came against Los Alamos’ second string.
Los Alamos sacked Capital quarterback Ace Bachicha 5 times in the game. Evan Beveridge dropped Bachicha 3 times in the first half, and chipped in on several other tackles around or behind the line of scrimmage.
Frank Sheppard and Tyler Jones also recorded sacks in the homecoming contest.
Offensively for Los Alamos, Watkins and Taylor split time under center. Watkins went 11-for-16 passing in the first half for 212 yards, while Taylor was 5-for-9 in the second half for 114 yards.
Watkins connected with Baca late in the first half on a 36-yard corner route to make the score 26-0 Los Alamos at the break.
For the Jaguars, Bachicha finished 11-for-23 passing for 131 yards, 1 touchdown and 2 interceptions – Carlo Baca had the two picks for Los Alamos.
Los Alamos has given up just 52 points in five games and came within 6 minutes of pitching its second consecutive shutout.
Los Alamos has only district contests for the remainder of the season. The team will travel to Del Norte for a Thursday night contest before returning home to face Belen Oct. 3.
