Hilltoppers Girls Soccer To ‘Kick For The Cure’ Oct. 19

LAHS News:

The Los Alamos High School (LAHS) Girls Soccer games Saturday Oct. 19 at Sullivan Field will be a “Kick for the Cure” cancer fundraiser. The public is invited to attend and support the teams as they compete to win against cancer.

Both the 11 a.m. Junior Varsity game and 1 p.m. Varsity game against the Aztec Lady Tigers will raise funds for breast cancer through raffles and a chance at halftime to shoot on the goalkeepers. Funds will be raised via cash donations and Venmo donations to LAHS girls soccer.

Los Alamos County Council issued a proclamation on Sept. 24, declaring October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month in Los Alamos.

The funds raised by the LAHS Girls Soccer teams at the “Kick for the Cure” will be donated to national breast cancer nonprofit Susan G Komen in honor of breast cancer awareness month.

Susan G Komen serves 33 counties in New Mexico and 366 New Mexicans seek help and information from the Susan G Komen helpline every week (1-877-465-6636 or email helpline@komen.org). Last year, Komen worked with local State Rep. Christine Chandler to successfully pass legislation requiring state-regulated health insurers in New Mexico provide coverage for medically necessary breast cancer diagnostic testing such as ultrasounds and MRIs.

Since 1982, Komen has collectively invested $1.1 billion in breast cancer research; and, in the last 12 years has funded research or clinical trials for 19 new, lifesaving FDA-approved Breast Cancer drugs.
