I-40 & NM 344 Roadway Rehabilitation Project Begins May 27

NMDOT News:

EDGEWOOD — Travelers in Edgewood may experience traffic delays as a roadway rehabilitation project on the exit and entrance ramps from I-40 to N.M. 344 is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, May 27.

The project will include the milling and repaving of the existing roadway surface on both N.M. 344 and the entrance and exit ramps to and from I-40.

This structural pavement treatment involves removing the current asphalt layer and replacing it with new pavement to improve road conditions and extend roadway life.

Construction will take place from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. During weekday construction, temporary lane closures on N.M. 344 will exist and a flagging operation will be in place to direct motorists through the construction zone.

Construction on the weekend will entail the complete closure of the ramps to and from N.M. 344 to I-40. Motorists on eastbound I-40 wishing to go to Edgewood will be detoured to N.M. 333 via exit 181 (Sedillo). Motorists on westbound I-40 wishing to go to Edgewood will be detoured to N.M. 333 via exit 196 (Moriarty East).

Traffic on I-40 will not be affected.

Motorists should expect delays and are urged to plan travel accordingly. Drivers are reminded to exercise caution in the work zone, follow all posted signs and detours, reduce speed, and stay alert for construction personnel and equipment.

Cutler Paving Inc. has been contracted to complete the work.

The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) remains committed to the safety of all road users and appreciates the public’s patience and cooperation during this necessary work. For the latest updates, visit www.nmroads.com or dial 511.
