Los Alamos Jewish Center News:
Touring balladeer and songwriter Daniel Boling will be at the Los Alamos Jewish Center this coming Saturday for a free concert benefiting LA Cares, Los Alamos’ local food pantry.
Los Alamos Jewish Center members Richard and Sophia Skolnik are sponsoring the Saturday evening concert, which is free and open to the public (adults and children 7-and-over, please). Because space is limited, reservations are requested; please reserve on the LAJC website. Click here to RSVP: https://www.lajc.org/event-details/concert-to-benefit-la-cares All donations from this concert will be given to LA Cares, to support food distribution and rent/utility assistance in our area.
Based in Albuquerque, Boling is the newest member of the iconic folk group The Limelighters. He plays guitar, mandolin and banjo. His songs are warm, endearing, and often amusing “musical stories.” First-place winner of the 2017 Woody Guthrie Songwriting Contest, Daniel has been nominated for–and won–a number of New Mexico Music awards, and has released five CDs. His repertoire includes 15 songs he wrote with the legendary folk singer/songwriter Tom Paxton, and one song written with Noel Paul Stookey of Peter, Paul, and Mary.
Doors open at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 31, with the concert 6-7 p.m. Light refreshments will be served after the concert. Additionally, at the end of the evening, the public is invited to attend havdalah, the brief, weekly ritual of spices, braided candle, and wine which marks the end of the Jewish Sabbath.
The Los Alamos Jewish Center is the community’s resource for Jewish worship, education, life-cycle events and social gatherings. The Jewish Center is at 2400 Canyon Road, just down the street from PEEC Nature Center.
