JEMEZ SPRINGS—For the first time in three years, the Village of Jemez Springs will host a fireworks display 10 a.m. to dusk as part of its patriotic 4th of July event.

“The beautiful mesas that surround Jemez Springs are a great backdrop for one of the best fireworks show in New Mexico, and without the crowds,” organizer Billy Ehret said. “We invite everyone to skip the large crowds and lean into a small-town, authentic Independence Day which will be patriotic and unforgettable.”

Local growers will be selling items beginning at 9 a.m. at the Farmer’s Market along with arts and crafts vendors. There is no fee to be a vendor. The 4th of July event kicks off at 10 a.m. with a parade commencing from the Jemez Springs Community Park up N.M. 4 to the Jemez Springs Plaza.

Anyone interested in being part of the parade, or those who would like to don their most patriotic garb, are invited to attend. Prizes for the best float will be awarded and include $200 for first place, $150 for second, and $100 for third.

Following the parade, the American Legion will lead a flag raising ceremony. Local musicians will bring the celebration to life starting at noon and continuing throughout the day at the Plaza gazebo.

Performers include Hill Stompers; Howie, Meg and Greg; Javier Ortega and others along with music by the Hummingbird Music Camp who will entertain with patriotic music during the fireworks show.

Food trucks, pies and beer garden (entry for 21 and over only) will be available throughout the event along with kids activities in the Plaza.

Event goers may win cash for the fastest plastic duck that makes it downstream in the Jemez River, during the Duck Race at 1 p.m. Tickets are $1 each and benefit the Jemez Springs Public Library.

There is no charge for the event outside of Chicken Poop Bingo and the Duck Race.
