Kiwanis Club News:
During the past two weeks, Kiwanis members had the opportunity to meet some of the club’s 2023 scholarship recipients. Ming Yuan Lo, Madelyn Crotzer and Quinton Geller spoke at Kiwanis meetings about their community service activities and plans for the future.
Ming, who attended with his father, Li-Ta Lo, was the Kiwanis Lee and Lou Pierotti Scholarship recipient. He said that Kiwanis has showed him that it is possible to change the world with small actions. Trash pickup was among the first of his service projects. He also helped design floats and served cotton candy in support of local service organizations. When in Key Club, Ming served as secretary and preseident. He is now headed to the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) to major in mechanical engineering.
Crotzer was a member of Key Club during high school and involved in many activities. She said her volunteer efforts made her better aware of local opportunities for service, especially for those most in need. She served as a judge in the LAHS student court program and said she learned a lot about the court system and how it afforded teens a second chance. Crotzer plans to attend New Mexico Tech this fall, majoring in chemical engineering.
Geller participated in Kiwanis sponsored Builders Club in middle school and Key Club in high school. He said that as a result of these memberships, he became more aware of the importance of helping people in need. He served as vice president of Key Club and credited his experiences with honing his leadership skills. This fall, Geller will attend the University of Pennsylvania Energy Research Program, majoring in chemistry.
