The Kiwanis Club of Los Alamos was treated to a presentation from leaders and members of Explorer Post 20, now named Crew 20, at its May 20 meeting.

Crew Advisor Susan Mendel gave an overview of the organizations goals and activities. Crew 20 is dedicated to developing leadership skills and an appreciation of nature in youth and young adults through planning and participating in vaious outdoor activities. They award scholarships every year to graduating Los Alamos High School seniors.

The crew’s main activities focus on kayaking and rock climbing. They provide kayak training at the Aquatic Center and make several river day trips at different skill levels, as well as one overnight trip. Climbing is promoted at the YMCA climbing wall and several outdoor trips under the supervision of a certified climbing director. In addition, the crew provides help to local Scout troops in achieving merit badges.

Other activities include snow skiing, scuba diving, bike camping and backpacking.

The Los Alamos Kiwanis is a sponsor and trustee for Crew 20.
