Los Alamos High School 2017 graduate Danekah D. Olguin completed basic military training in August at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland in San Antonio, Texas.
She completed an intensive eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values and physical fitness as well as basic warfare principles and skills. Airmen who complete basic training also earn four credits towards an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.
Airman Olguin is attending Air Force technical school in preparation for her new career. Following technical school she will be stationed in Japan.
Airman Olguin completed four years of NJROTC training at LAHS including drill and color guard. She was color guard, exhibition and regulation team commander for two years. She served as Recruiting and Retention Cadet Staff Officer as well as Public Affairs Officer for two years. She was part of the LAHS NJROTC drill team that won state and regional competitions and had the opportunity to go one year to the national competitions.
During her four years in NJROTC Airman Olguin received several awards including the Navy Challenge coin and the Daedalian Medal, which is awarded to cadets who show patriotism, love of country and service to the nation who indicate the potential and desire to pursue a military career.
Airman Olguin is the daughter of Robert and Shelley Olguin of Espanola.
