Los Alamos National Laboratory’s (LANL) Emergency Management division has begun a forest-thinning project to protect the community from devastating wildfires and create a healthier forest in Rendija Canyon.
The Rendija Canyon Wildland Fire Fuels Reduction and Defensible Space Project will create a fuel break across 135 acres near Rendija Canyon Road, providing protection to the Los Alamos Sportsmen’s Club and nearby residents in the Barranca Mesa area.

Los Alamos Police Respond To Shots Fired Near West Road
The Los Alamos Police Department (LAPD) responded to gun shots fired around 7:20 p.m. Tuesday near the intersection of West Road and West Jemez Road.
Centerra-Los Alamos security guards responded to the area and secured an adult male subject armed with a firearm who was suffering from a crisis.
Los Alamos Police responded a short time later and secured the male subject who was identified as Cody Adams, 24, of Los Alamos. He was transported to Los Alamos Medical Center for evaluation and care.

The Bradbury Science Museum (BSM) at 1450 Central Ave. in downtown Los Alamo, hosts approximately 60 interactive exhibits tracing the history of the WWII Manhattan Project, highlighting Los Alamos National Laboratory’s current and historic research projects related to defense and technology, and focusing on Laboratory research related to national and international economic, environmental, political and social concerns.
These exhibits together with extensive educational and community programs draw nearly 80,000 visitors a year.
