A report came out this morning that a new $213 million security system at Los Alamos National Laboratory has major problems that will delay the system’s implementation.
The new security system was undergoing final “commissioning” tests when several serious problems were discovered, according to the report published in the Albuquerque Journal.

NNSA Conducts International Training in Nevada

LAS VEGAS – As part of a joint commitment by the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to enhance international emergency management systems, the NNSA and IAEA are conducting an International Radiological Assistance Program Training for Emergency Response Port/Customs (I-RAPTER P/C) course.

Deborah Jin Receives ‘For Women in Science’ Award

Deborah Jin, a physicist at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) who works at JILA, has been selected as the North American recipient for the 2013 For Women in Science Awards.
JILA is a joint institute of NIST and the University of Colorado Boulder.
The award is given annually by the L’Oréal Foundation and UNESCO as part of an international program recognizing women in science and supporting scientific vocations.
