LAPS Thanks Community For Supporting Los Alamos Schools

LAPS News:

Los Alamos Public Schools would like to thank the Los Alamos community for supporting the General Obligation Bond in this year’s election.

The Nov. 7, 2023 election in Los Alamos resulted in 81 percent of the Los Alamos voters voting “yes” for the Los Alamos Public Schools General Obligation Bond.

The general obligation bond will generate $30 million for critical updates to school buildings throughout the district, including the replacement of Piñon and Chamisa Elementary Schools. Having high quality facilities and learning environments benefits our community. We are thankful to the Los Alamos voters for prioritizing our children and taking the time to vote.

Superintendent Jennifer Guy said, “I am grateful for the Los Alamos County voters. Thank you to the LAPS School Bond Committee and all of those who put in many hours to help advocate for our schools. We will continue to work hard to maintain community trust and fulfill our commitments to the public. Thank you, Los Alamos.”

Congratulations to the Board Members who were elected last night. Melanie Colgan and Sondra Wyman will continue to serve on the School Board. Lauren Copeland was newly elected to serve for District 3. She will join the Board on Jan. 1, 2024. Thank you to Sean Stanfield for caring about students enough to run. A special thank you to Christine Bernstein for her years of dedication to this district and passion for education. Los Alamos Public Schools will continue to grow under the strong leadership of the School Board.
