Bridge has been around for more than 100 years and continues to be one of the most popular card games in the world. As a fun and mentally challenging game, it can be played on many levels-
from the kitchen table to world wide competitive tournaments. Playing bridge offers both
intellectual and social stimulation for older adults and provides a good social outlet for all ages.

The Betty Ehart Senior Activity Center is pleased to offer a spring Beginning Bridge class
taught by Jerry Fleming. Fleming has been playing, teaching and directing bridge for more than 50 years
including on over 50 world wide cruises.

Classes are being held 10:30 a.m. to noon Saturdays for 8 weeks. The classes started April 13.

The class is open to all ages 8 to 98. This series of sequential lessons is a very basic course
and assumes that the students know nothing about bridge and have never played bridge before.

There is no fee for the class, however there is a suggested donation of $5 per session.

The structure of each class will be a lecture on the topic for the day, followed by a guided play
period. Each class builds on the rules and skills learned in previous sessions. You do not need a
partner to take the class. If you would like to enroll, call 505-662-8920. If you have questions
please email Jerry at peanutcat@aol.com.

The following topics will be covered in this 8 week course:

1. Mechanics of Bridge April 13
2. Scoring and the theory of bidding April 20
3. Opening bidder’s description April 27
4. Responder’s description May 11
5. No trump bidding May 18
6. Overcalls May 25
7. Takeout doubles June 1
8. Introduction to declarer play June 8

Note: May 4 no class offered.

The Los Alamos Senior Activity Centers offer classes, workshops, transportation, meals
and much more for older adults in Los Alamos. The Betty Ehart and White Rock
Centers are open 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. Learn
