COMMUNITY News:

Ashley Pond Park, including the stage area, will be used for the Los Alamos Victim Assistant (LAVA) Community Support Walk 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 24.

The community is invited to attend this event.

To follow social-distancing requirements, directional signage will be placed to allow one-way foot traffic around  the sidewalks in the park, and masks are required. Sign-in will occur at the stage area.

Walkers can utilize parking at 20th Street and Trinity Drive, on the southeast side of the pond, as the Library Overflow Parking lot, the Justice Center North Parking lot will be closed for resurfacing. The southwest pond parking lot (Justice Center) will be closed for use 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. by the Drug Take Back drive-through event.

The LAVA Community Support walk is being held to promote community-wide public awareness of the rights and available services for victims of all types of crimes during National Crime Victims’ Rights Week (NCVRW), April 18-24. The 2021 NCVRW theme is “Support Victims. Build Trust. Engage Communities.”

Through funding from the National Association of VOCA Assistance Administrators (NAVAA) Community  Awareness Projects (CAP) Grant award, community walkers and volunteers will receive NCVRW themed t-shirts (300 available for this event) and masks, as well as other giveaways including frisbees from Los Alamos Emergency  Management.

Smith’s has donated a medium and large youth bicycle for giveaway during the event and water for  the walkers.
