BETH ANDERSON Los Alamos
In the past couple of months the city/county of Los Alamos has installed “bear proof” garbage dumpsters throughout town. The lid to open these dumpsters is inapproachable if you are 5 ft. tall, as I am.
There is also a chained latch placed halfway back on the top lid.
Repeatedly I’ve called Environmental Services (Armando) about the dumpsters. The dismissive smirk in his voice is crystal clear. Other agencies say it’s not their job.
I’m also disabled; having no access to empty my trash is discriminatory. Decades ago there was a Federal mandate for across the board public access; it’s called the ADA, Americans (with) Disabilities Act.
