Letter To The Editor: A Friend In Need

Back in 2007, the Los Alamos Monitor had an amazing staff, and many of us have remained friends for more than 15 years. That newsroom staff included many people you will recognize from this publication (Carol Clark, Kirsten Laskey, Mike Maez Cote, Gary Warren and Kelly LeVan – now Dolejsi, myself and Roger Snodgrass.)

I had lost touch with Roger, who was an investigative reporter of the highest caliber. One of the traits that made him able to be such a good reporter, beyond his really beautiful writing, was that he developed friendships and created networks among a wide range of people, so that he always had someone to turn to for a well-reasoned position on any topic.

Recently I learned that he had a bout with cancer and had gone to live with extended family in California. The cancer left him somewhat disabled. When the relatives sold their house, he faced homelessness – and then Trish and Greg Mello in Albuquerque stepped up to offer him temporary housing. They followed up by getting him a more permanent situation in an unfurnished apartment, which he is almost able to afford on a small pension and Social Security, “almost” being the operative word.

The Mellos, with Roger’s blessing and gratitude, have set up a GoFundMe to help bridge the gap between his income and expenses.

I know that Roger has many friends among the Daily Post’s readers. I hope that some of you are able to contribute to the GoFundMe: https://www.gofundme.com/f/elderly-friend-roger-snodgrass-needs-your-help?qid=5d76fdb8ad2cd3c5478a6e59536c8ae5
