Over the past few weeks I’ve read quite a few eloquent letters about why the proposed strapline “Live Exponentially” is unnecessary, embarrassing, or just plain stupid. Unfortunately, we already know that the council (except Pete Sheehey) doesn’t much care about letters to the editor.
So I hope the letter writers — and anyone else who cares about this issue — will show up at the council meeting this coming Tuesday evening, Dec. 9, when the council is reconsidering the contract. This is your chance to voice your opinion on whether we really ought to be spending a quarter of a million dollars on “Live Exponentially”.
At the Oct. 10 meeting when this was last voted on, only two audience members spoke. Finding the details isn’t all that easy, so here’s a map. Start at www.losalamosnm.us, click on Government, then Council. Then click on the image on the right that says “Read / Watch” even though it doesn’t look like a link. If you scroll down to the Dec. 9 meeting, you can download the “Agenda Packets” — a 364 page PDF.
The branding section runs from pages 93 to 287 and includes the full reports from North Star Destination Strategies, if you’re masochistic enough to want the gory details.
If you just want to see the sample images our council found so compelling, skip ahead to page 259 of the PDF. “Breathtaking raised to the power of (superscript) YOU. LIVE EXPONENTIALLY.” Yes, folks — the advertising concepts are even dumber than the strapline by itself. But check out the PDF and see for yourself.
And then come to the meeting on Tuesday at 7 p.m. and let the council know what you think! Or send your letters now, before Tuesday’s meeting, to countycouncil@lacnm.us.
