I took my dogs out for a walk this morning only to find that someone had “de-boned” an elk and dumped the unwanted parts at a popular White Rock trailhead. There is no hunting for many miles around this trail, so I was very surprised. It is DOE and laboratory property on either side of State Road 4.
I called the laboratory’s Emergency Operation Center and they told me that they were not concerned, and so, I then called the Los Alamos Police Department non-emergency number (dispatch). Dispatch contacted an officer who said it might be a concern for game and fish and she gave me the number of one of their officers.
So I called Game and Fish. According to them, this is no problem. The officer told me it was a little thoughtless but otherwise ok.
I was surprised. I just couldn’t believe it. But apparently hunters can do that. I’m glad they didn’t dump it in a playground or something like that.
I don’t think most people would really think that this was ok. Maybe you have a better sense for what it is that passes for okay. It seemed noteworthy to me.
Thanks for listening.
