The House Bill 6 (HB6), Clean Future Act, is an amazing bill that can propel New Mexico into a safe future that meets the findings of the scientific community and the goals of the Paris Climate Accord.

HB6 will likely be heard in the New Mexico Legislative Session that’s just underway on Thursday Jan. 27, 2022, so the time is ripe to let your Legislators know that this Bill is important to you.

Living in New Mexico, we are all experiencing prolonged droughts and devastating forest fires. Our communities living near oil and gas facilities, or busy highways are especially vulnerable to the effects from pollution. Together, we need to prioritize just climate solutions to protect our people and preserve our air, water and climate.

HB6 builds on Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham’s climate leadership, setting a goal of 50 percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 and net-zero emissions by 2050. It directs the New Mexico Environment Department to implement urgent regulations and transformations that will ensure that the reduction goals are met.

We are at a critical moment, and the Legislature must adopt House Bill 6 now to ensure a better future for our children and all New Mexicans.
