This Memorial Day, like all past ones, I hope against all hope that people will do the right thing and spend the day in solemn remembrance and prayer for the millions of men and women (and for their families) who gave their lives for your freedom.
I’m not saying spend the day crying. Go to the beach. Have a cookout. But for way too many people all the day is about is having fun without a thought of all the wives, husbands, children and parents who aren’t going to be having fun because an American military man or woman gave their life so we don’t have a queen, or a kaiser or are saying “sieg heill”. And too many more gave their lives so American and British oil companies can have more oil.
Veteran’s Day is for surviving and living veterans. Armed Forces day is for active duty military. Veteran’s Day should have been chosen by the government for a 3 day weekend in summer. Heck the WWI treaty was signed June 28. Memorial Day should be on the same calendar day each year regardless of it being a weekend or not.
I challenge everyone to spend at least 1 hour Memorial Day thanking your God if you have one for the fallen heroes. And stay away from the car dealers and stores. They’re always having sales, missing one isn’t going to hurt you.
Thank you.
