While the election spotlight has been on a number of county issues and the highly contested District 43 State House race, there is one ballot item that voters should not overlook, the race for the Los Alamos Municipal Court Judge.

Our family would like to go on record as endorsing Judge Alan Kirk for the Los Alamos Municipal Court Judge. The distinctive personal integrity he has applied to his professional career has served Los Alamos County well; Judge Kirk brings the full package to the political table.

Judge Kirk has a Supreme Court appointment to the State Technology Board where he has served for eight years. He also participates on the Chief Judges Council. He brings 40 years of extensive criminal justice experience to our community, all but three years of which have been in service to the residents of Los Alamos.

Judge Kirk is the candidate with not only the most comprehensive advisory experience, but he has the real, pro-active, one-on-one experience with the youth and members of our community. The Juvenile Justice Advisory Board (JJAB) that he helped develop has been used as a recognized model for other New Mexico counties. He also helped establish and chair, Leadership Los Alamos, coached Los Alamos High School Basketball, and left lasting impressions on our youth through Los Alamos Youth Leadership.

His involvements are not part of a greater agenda; Judge Kirk is personally invested in the future of our community. It speaks volumes that the youth of our community speak so highly of him and that those who are now of legal voting age support Judge Kirk.

We may be a house divided by political lines but, on this issue, our personal and professional experiences with both candidates have proven to us that voting for the individual not the party is the right course of action.  Our house is united in its vote for Judge Alan Kirk.
