Over the last few weeks we’ve seen a healthy volley of letters to the editor in favor of, and opposed to the Rec Bond. For the most part the letters have been well thought out, well spoken and constructive in their approach to the issue. I think this is representative of Los Alamos as a whole. We discuss, we debate, but in the end, we’re still nice to our neighbors that have a different opinion. It’s what makes this community so great.
This is why the letter published Monday evening in the Los Alamos Daily Post from former Los Alamos County Council candidate Patrick Brenner is so disturbing. Mr. Brenner is the treasurer for the Better Way LA PAC. He and his mother, Lisa Brenner aka Lola Anderson, have been busy on social media attacking anyone who has a differing opinion on this issue.
I’m asking the other members of board of the Better Way LA PAC for a statement on Mr. Brenner’s public attack on the County Council, and continuing attacks aimed at people on social media. Is this representative of the PAC as a whole? Is he speaking for your organization in this letter? If so, how do you expect to gain votes for your position with this level of hate and invective? Do you endorse this kind of rhetoric and these tactics?
Clearly this is not a “Better Way for LA” by attacking and seeking revenge for the Council’s actions regarding the Office of Sheriff — which Mr. Brenner makes clear is his motivation in opposing the Rec Bond. We can and should do better Los Alamos, and not tolerate this kind of damaging and unnecessary rhetoric.
Thank you.
