This is a letter in support of Samuel Carmer’s recent Op-Ed on electrifying LAPS schools (link). A few weeks ago a group from the ECO club came by Tibbar (274 DP Road), and we showed them how we had electrified our heating systems with a heat pump.

We are also generating our own power with solar PV, so we have an emissions-free business. We have enough power left over that we can recharge a couple of EVs.

We also showed them how it is saving us money. I suspect that the same will be true for retrofitting the schools with heat pumps and replacing the busses with EVs. This needs to be verified with real numbers and I’m sure the LAPS will do their due diligence on this.

Although climate change is a politically divisive issue, I don’t know anyone who is opposed to saving money. If they can get the federal or the state government to buy the equipment, then this is a no-brainer.
