Emergency Road Closure: 33rd/34th Streets For Repairs

COUNTY News:
A stretch of 33rd and 34th streets will be closed to through traffic 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today and Wednesday for emergency water repairs.
The affected portion of the streets is 34th and Villa to 33rd and Walnut Street.
Department of Public Utilities water crews will be repairing a leak and restricting traffic in the neighborhood to only those residents who live on that stretch of road. Read More
I-25 And Canyon Ranch Road Bridge Rehabilitation Project

SANTA FE — The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) would like to alert the travelling public to a bridge rehabilitation project set to begin Monday June 27 on I-25.
Kimo Constructors Inc, in conjunction with the NMDOT is set to begin a bridge rehabilitation project on Canyon Ridge Road that spans I-25. The existing bridge superstructure will be raised and rehabilitated.
During peak commuter hours all lanes will be open for traffic. Peak commuter hours are 7-9 a.m. northbound and 3-6 p.m. southbound.

NCRTD Announces 4th Of July Holiday Closure
NCRTD News:
The North Central Regional Transit District’s RTD Blue Buses will not be in service Monday, July 4 in observance of the Independence Day holiday.
Service on the 255 Mountain Trail, which had been suspended due to the closure of the Santa Fe National Forest, will resume Tuesday, July 5.

LAPD: Crash On Truck Route – Motorists Should Avoid Area
The scene of a single vehicle crash that occurred a short time ago this morning on the Truck Route about one mile east of the Los Alamos Neutron Science Center (LANSCE). Police report no injuries. Los Alamos police are asking motorists to avoid this area and seek alternate routes to allow first responders to clear the scene. Ah, yes … the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health/Roe v. Wade overturn by the Supreme Court—celebration for some, infuriating for others. But, no matter which side one falls on, we know one thing for certain: it is not the last we’ll hear of the debate; quite the contrary. Because of the extreme polarity of the division, it will be a battle that will likely go on—as it already has—for decades (centuries?) to come.

LAPD Addresses Citizen Concerns Over Traffic Safety
LAPD News:
The Los Alamos Police Department (LAPD) has received several inquiries from citizens concerned over traffic safety related to motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians.
Like any community issue, to effect any positive change takes collaboration and responsibility from multiple parties. Each group should take on the responsibility and ask the question, ”What can I do to promote safety?”

County: Airport Pavement Preservation Work Suspended
COUNTY News:
The Pavement Preservation Project at the Los Alamos County Airport has been suspended due to weather and the airport has reopened.
The plan is for the contractor to re-mobilize July 25 to complete the job. This will be re-assessed July 18 to confirm conditions are suitable.
The work will require closure of the airport for several days during the week of July 25.
Be aware that all runways and taxiways have temporary and non-standard markings.

LANL: West Road Getting Safer For Drivers And Cyclists

Get ready for a safer drive and bike ride on West Road, thanks to fencing being installed along sections of it by Los Alamos National Laboratory.
The project started June 13.
The new fence will improve safety in the following ways:
- Cars won’t be permitted to park along West Road, meaning fewer people will need to walk in the road.
- Dry grass and pine needles are less likely to ignite if cars aren’t parked near them along the road, decreasing the potential for
