Pastor Granillo: Confusing Laws

By PASTOR RAUL GRANILLO

The power of the lawyer is in the uncertainty of the law. – Jeremy Bentham

Imagine a person from a country outside of America. This person began sharing why he believed America was not what it claimed. This person would say that, in America, it is illegal to sell a firearm to American citizens and references 18 U.S.C. 922(d)(1) as proof. Imagine this person also saying that according to 18 U.S.C. 922(g), American citizens are not even allowed to be in possession of firearms.

He goes on to say that even the states contradict

It was Thursday again. Mabel Adams asked at the desk to be sure.

“Thursday all day, Mabel,” the girl said. “Don’t forget to get your hair done today. Two o’clock … right?”

“Right,” Mabel said, locking the time away in her mind. “Two o’clock. On Thursday.” She took her purple walker and went half a block to the counter at the drug store. That nice Williams girl came over with a smile and a menu.

“Tuna on toast, Mrs. Adams?”

“Uh, sure. I like that.”

“Hot tea?”

“Yes please.”

After she ate, she started down the sidewalk toward

Just One Thing To Do This Week: Rise

By MARY BETH MAASSEN
Los Alamos

My heart is heavy with sadness for the lives lost at the white nationalist rally in Charlottesville. A helicopter patrolling during the violence crashed and killed the two state troopers on board.

Heather Heyer was a 32-year-old paralegal who showed up to peacefully protest. She was killed by a self-professed Nazi-sympathizer who drove his car into the crowd, injuring many others. Some vile acts of violence can’t be anticipated by those with healthy minds.

Years ago I was a political activist. I participated in actions all across the United States attempting Read More

Statement From La Vista Church
White Rock

The ideologies of any organization or individual that claim the superiority of race over another is absolutely incompatible with the message of the Christian Bible.

Racism is an abhorrent sin against humanity and God. Entities such as the KKK, white nationalists, neo-Nazi’s, or other such racist organizations are evil and in complete opposition to the Christian Bible.

You can be racist. You can be a Christian. You cannot be both. Read More

How The Hen House Turns: Love From; Between Animals

By CARY NEEPER
Formerly of Los Alamos

The noun love takes up a full three inches in my beloved 1980 edition of Webster’s New Twentieth Century Dictionary Unabridged. There are eight definitions with eight examples: “…a strong affection for or attachment or devotion to…” persons or things or interests or deity or “…in tennis, a score of zero.”

The question here, however, is do animals do it? We’ve talked about how Lucy goose “loved corn,” as did the other Hen House birds. I could relate to the eagerness in which she raced to my hand to gobble as much as she could before the chickens got to me. She didn’t Read More

Home Country: When Pets Pass

Desdemona died sometime in the night. Aunt Ada had the cat since she was a tiny kitten, and she was naturally heartbroken. So was Boots, Desdemona’s partner in crime and play and food and everything else that makes life worthwhile for two old cats.

Through her tears, Aunt Ada wondered if she could’ve noticed something or had done something differently that would have given Desdemona back to her for a while longer, but there just wasn’t anything. The cat had looked good at bedtime, and was gone before the sun came up.

What if? Well, what if she’d done
