Just One Thing To Do This Week: Weed It Out
By MARY BETH MAASSEN
Los Alamos
I was delighted after several weeks of unpredictable weather to be out in the garden again, but, I was a little “less-than-delighted” with the state of my garden. Weeds were everywhere and I spent the better part of the day pulling them out by their roots, or trying anyway.
I enjoy the day-to-day maintenance of a beautiful bloom-filled garden, but I have several week-ends of work ahead of me before I can enjoy that phase of the experience.
Another problem I have to get a grip on – I am not a great gardener. In early stages of growth I have trouble discerning weeds from Read More

Fr. Glenn: Happy Mothers’ Day
By Rev. Glenn JonesWell, a very happy and blessed Mothers’ Day to all of you mothers out there! Many thanks, dearest ladies, for the love and dedication you give to your children, and for the infinite sacrifices you make for their welfare and rearing. We Judeo-Christians always hold high in our memories that fourth Commandment: “Honor your father and your mother” (Exodus 20:12), and as St. Paul points out: “this is the first commandment with a promise, ‘…that your days may be long in the land which the LORD your God gives you.’” (Ephesians 6:2-3). Pastor Raul Granillo: Stronger Than Steel
La Vista Church
Los Alamos
Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all. (NIV Proverbs 31:29)
Too often, it seems, we only really grasp a blessing long after the fact. I know that in my own life, I have taken many of them for granted. Some of the most important blessings in my life came in the form of mothers who carried loads that I was far too weak or ill equipped to carry.
Let me first say that women are certainly not weaker than men. I have heard that, pound for pound, silk is stronger than steel. If the mothers that God has placed in my life are any indication,

This column will be written in several sections in the coming weeks. I will discuss getting started, a budget, floor planning, architectural details, storage and organization, décor and design, and hiring professionals.

Just One Thing To Do This Week: Establish A Little Discipline
By MARY BETH MAASSENMy husband and I have three dogs. I have written about our dogs before. They are all boys, about 70 pounds each, and they think they are human beings. I don’t know where they got that idea. Actually, I do. From me. My bad.
Right now I refer to them as our dogs. When they are funny and sweet and obedient they are my dogs, and when they are wreaking havoc they are his dogs. As in, “your dogs got out” or “your dogs tracked mud all over the house” or “your dogs left you a gift on the carpet.” They are usually his dogs. This is because even though I try to treat them as responsible decision-making Read More
