Fr. Glenn: Civility And Graciousness…One More Time

By Rev. Glenn Jones
Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church
Los Alamos

During Lent we read a lot from the prophet Isaiah at our Catholic Mass, and part of our reading Saturday was:

If you remove from your midst oppression,
false accusation and malicious speech;
If you bestow your bread on the hungry
and satisfy the afflicted;
Then light shall rise for you in the darkness,
and the gloom shall become for you like midday;
Then the LORD will guide you always…

(Isaiah 58:9-11 NAB)

That “malicious speech” thing continues to hit home. I rather like the Revised Standard Version (RSV) better; it seems a bit Read More

Pastor Raul Granillo: We Are Missional

By PASTOR RAUL GRANILLO

How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news, who proclaim peace, who bring good tidings, who proclaim salvation, who say to Zion, “Your God reigns!” Isaiah 52:7 (NIV)

It often seems like there is more bad news being broadcast than good news. It’s refreshing when we hear about people selflessly helping others or news about situations that have been changed for the better. The Christian has the opportunity—even the responsibility—to be a part of that good news.

The third core value of the Nazarene church is that we are missional. Read More

If you can’t function without your morning cup of joe, you aren’t alone. Americans consume more than 400 million cups of coffee per day, so it should come as no surprise that coffee stations are becoming a must-have design element in the modern home.

Before you start knocking down walls; however, there are a few things to consider about designing your own coffee bar. Here are some of the most important things to keep in mind as you’re looking for coffee station ideas.

How much room do you have for your coffee station? Can you make use of corners, kitchen nooks or unused

Just One Thing To Do This Week: Be Shamless

By MARY BETH MAASSEN
Los Alamos

I have been married nearly 25 years. When you are in a relationship for that long, over time you learn and accept there are some fundamental differences in expectations.

In order to keep the peace long-term, many times your only option is to agree to disagree. I think it is important to pick and choose your battles carefully – choose wisely when to stand your ground, when to give some space, or when to let go entirely.

Letting go can be hard because it may mean giving up something that feels important or means a lot to you, or maybe it just appears to be important.

Heading south from the border towns of El Paso/Ciudad Juarez, the comfortable Mexican bus navigates the eight-hour ride to the City of Chihuahua. Although I did not see any of the little dogs, which are named after the city, I did have a wonderful time exploring the sights and museums and food.

One of my first stops was Casa Chihuahua, the former Federal Palace and now a museum. It is located at the head of Libertad, a street that has been turned

Smart Design With Suzette: How To Arrange Flowers Like A Pro

By SUZETTE FOX
Los Alamos

I am a lover of flowers; ever since I was a little girl, I would bring in cut lilacs from our property and arrange them throughout the house.

As I grew, wherever I moved, I made sure to have flowers planted that I could cut and bring in.

I always loved how cheery they made a room feel. I would have to say my favorite flowers are lilacs, gardenias, white roses, peonies and lily of the valley.

Letter To The Editor: A Tribute To Pastor Granillo

By HOLLY BATES
Los Alamos

I was profoundly touched by Pastor Granillo’s column, “The Love of Hate” (link), and I wanted to share this:

After a cruel, devastating blow during this past Christmas, I was overwhelming consumed with many of the emotions that the Pastor described in his column. As a life-long Christian, I was embarrassed and ashamed of what I had become. How could I allow this one, evil person to change me so profoundly?

My first reaction to this true evil was revenge, which made me even more angry. I then came upon the column from Pastor Granillo,

Pastor Raul: We Are A Holiness People

By Pastor Raul Granillo
Los Alamos

I am the LORD your God. Consecrate yourselves therefore, and be holy, for I am holy. Leviticus 11:44a (NASB).

Holiness is the core value of the Nazarene church that is most often met with resistance and criticism, not just in the Nazarene church, but in all the Christian churches.

To better understand why, we first need to understand what holiness is. In the simplest sense, when something is made holy, it is declared, or ritually prepared to be set apart for God’s use alone.

In the most real sense, it means loving God so much that it turns
