Below is a very competitive hand that was played in our Oct. 9 game.
Before reviewing the bidding and play, try to visualize how the bidding might proceed, and then how the hand should be played.
South was the dealer; Both sides were vulnerable.
Opening lead: ♦ K
This was a very well executed auction that was realized at only one table at our Oct. 9 game. South opened 1♣ , and after West bid 1♦, North showed his/her 4+ card heart suit by bidding 1♥. After East’s pass, South shows a very strong hand by bidding 3♣. After North raised to 4♣, East made the very imaginative call of 4♥, just in case North had a 5-card heart suit. That ended the auction.
When this hand was played at the local club, one pair bid 4♥ making 4, another bid 3♥ making 6, a third bid 2♥ making 4, and at the other two tables, the contract was 3♣ making 5 and 5♣ down one. Every hand is a challenge!
