Los Alamos County Firefighters knocked down a brush fire that erupted this morning in the back yard of a home at 49 Grand Canyon. Deputy Fire Chief Justin Grider was at the scene and said 30-foot flames could be seen over the roofline of the home. The fire consumed a shed on the property and scorched a 600-800 square-foot area, burning trees and the fence between the home and a neighboring home at 47 Grand Canyon. Grider commended his firefighters saying they did a fantastic job of containing the blaze before it could spread to neighboring homes, which were just 30-40 feet away. ‘There were no injuries and all dogs and cats are fine and reunited with their owners,’ Grider said, adding that the cause of the fire is under investigation. Crews remain on scene mopping up but Grand Canyon has reopened to motorists. Photo by Salvador Zapien/ladailypost.com
