LA HISTORICAL SOCIETY News:
Los Alamos Historical Society Lecture presents “Made in Los Alamos: A Perspective on the Laboratory’s Impact on Products and Industry” by Dr. David R. Pesiri at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14 Fuller Lodge.
Los Alamos National Laboratory has a long and accomplished history in national security, and from this rich past has come a tremendous wealth of technologies and products used every day. In fact, Los Alamos can lay claim to the creation of entire industry segments, starting with precision explosives and extending to materials, computing, medicine, and energy.
Pesiri is director of LANL’s Richard P. Feynman Center for Innovation. His main duties include forming strategic partnerships, promoting collaborations to enhance innovation, creating and leveraging valuable intellectual property, developing technology spinouts and promoting economic development within the region and throughout the nation. He describes the theme of innovation – the ability to bring a new technology or idea to unmet markets of need – in the context of Los Alamos. In the breadth and impact that “Made In Los Alamos” has carried throughout its 70-year history, there is an important lesson about our past and an exciting prelude to the future.
A recognized expert in technology assessment, valuation and deployment, Pesiri manages efforts in innovation, market transition, strategic sponsored work and agile business models at Los Alamos. Since his return to the Laboratory in 2005 after an entrepreneurial career in the private sector, Pesiri has been the lead for partnerships, championed the development of the new institutional innovation infrastructure, and supported the CTO for the development of agile Laboratory-wide business models at Los Alamos.
Prior to 2005, Dr. Pesiri was co-founder and president of SDC Materials, a successful nanomaterials discovery company in Tempe, Ariz.. He also served as managing partner of the Essex Technology Group, LLC, a leading nanotechnology consulting firm in Aliso Viejo, Calif. In addition to founding or co-founding several successful technology and manufacturing startup companies, Dr. Pesiri was a senior scientist at Technanogy, LLC where he focused on nanomaterials scale up, manufacturing and application development. He also served as a principal at Technanogy Materials Development, a product-based nanomaterials producer in Santa Ana, Calif.
Prior to his entrepreneurial career, Dr. Pesiri was a technical staff member at LANL where he focused on nanomaterials, catalysis and separations.
Pesiri holds a Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a B.A. from Pomona College in Claremont, Calif.
