Los Alamos Historical Society News:
The Los Alamos Historical Society invites you to a unique evening of history for “The General & the Genius: A Grandson’s Perspective,” a fundraising event dedicated to the restoration of the historic cottage where Dr. J. Robert Oppenheimer lived during the Manhattan Project.
This 95-year-old cottage is a national treasure, and the goal is to raise $2 million to transform it into a gallery that will comprehensively narrate the life and legacy of Dr. Oppenheimer, both during and after the Manhattan Project.
The event is 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 21, 2024, at La Fonda on the Plaza, 100 E. San Francisco St. in Santa Fe.
The evening will feature distinguished speakers:
- Jim Kunetka, author of The General and the Genius;
- Dick Groves, grandson of General Leslie R. Groves; and
- Alan Carr, LANL Senior Historian.

- 7 p.m. – Panel Discussion
