The Los Alamos High School NJROTC unit showcased exceptional skill and dedication at the New Mexico JROTC State Competition held March 28 at Cibola High School and March 29 at West Mesa High School in Albuquerque. Competing against top programs from across the state, the Los Alamos cadets emerged victorious, securing the 2025 4A JROTC New Mexico State Championship Title.

“This was my first state drill meet and I absolutely cannot wait for the next year!” said C/SN Kailei Perry, a first year cadet and member of the unarmed regulation and unarmed exhibition drill teams.

The competition featured a series of challenging events designed to test the cadets’ proficiency in various military disciplines, including drill routines, physical fitness tests and marksmanship. The Los Alamos NJROTC unit’s comprehensive training and unwavering commitment were evident as they excelled across these categories, outperforming their peers and demonstrating the core values of leadership, teamwork and discipline.

“This was the last drill meet of my high school career,” said C/MCPO Sonya Ayers, Topper Company’s Command Master Chief and female color guard team member in her final year in NJROTC, said. “I was not only surrounded by my closest friends but it was amazing seeing the first year cadets build a stronger connection.”

This victory marks a significant achievement for the Los Alamos NJROTC program, reflecting the hard work and perseverance of its cadets and the dedicated guidance of their instructors. The state championship title not only brings honor to the unit but also serves as an inspiration for future cadets to strive for excellence in all endeavors.
