LAPD News:

The Los Alamos Police Department issued a statement today after the death of former LAPD Cmdr. Scott Mills in a crash Monday in Colorado.

“The Los Alamos Police Department extends our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Scott Mills,” Chief Dino Sgambellone said.

Cmdr. Mills, 51, was a veteran who served in the United States Air Force. He joined the LAPD on Nov. 30, 1998. During his police career, Cmdr. Mills served as an officer, corporal, sergeant, lieutenant and operations commander. He also served as a member of the Los Alamos Bomb Squad.

Cmdr. Mills left the LAPD briefly between August 2010 and February 2012 to work for the Albuquerque Police. He retired from the LAPD at the rank of commander on Sept. 20, 2013. 

Cmdr. Mills was well known for attending funerals across the state at which he played his bagpipes for fallen and deceased officers.
