LASO News:
The Los Alamos Symphony Orchestra (LASO) and Dance Arts Los Alamos (DALA) will present a captivating evening of symphonic music and dance, 7 p.m. Saturday, April 12 at Duane Smith Auditorium in Los Alamos. Admission is free, and all are welcome to experience this dynamic artistic collaboration.
This special performance will offer audiences a preview of La Lune de Bleu, an all-new three-act ballet written by DALA Artistic Director Jonathan Guise. The concert will feature selected excerpts, including the dance of Apollo, Polyhymnia, Terpsichore, and Calliope; solos by Hera, Athena, and Nike; and a pas de deux between Selene, the moon goddess, and Endymion, a shepherd. Endymion will be performed by guest artist Aiden Moss, a soloist from Ballet San Antonio.
The full production of La Lune de Bleu premieres Friday, May 2, with a matinee performance on May 4, 2025, at Duane Smith Auditorium. This ambitious production showcases new choreography by Guise, Rachel Zervakos, Karina Wilder, Allison Beaux, Isabella Jimenez, Audrey Roman and Natalie Smith, along with original costume and scenic design by talented local artists.
In addition to the ballet preview, the symphony will feature a special performance by world-renowned pianist Dr. Haewon Yang, who will perform Saint-Saëns’ Piano Concerto No. 2 in G Minor. Dr. Yang, a Korean-born Canadian-American pianist, is celebrated for her expressive and meticulous interpretations. A winner of prestigious competitions such as the Shean Music Competition and Indiana University Concerto Competition, she has performed extensively across North America, including with the Santa Fe Community Orchestra and at venues such as Purdue University and the Tippecanoe Chamber Music Festival. She holds a Doctor of Music from Indiana University and specializes in child prodigy composers. She teaches at the University of New Mexico-Los Alamos while remaining active as both a performer and educator.
Under the direction of LASO’s conductor William Waag, who also leads the Santa Fe Youth Symphony and Santa Fe Community Orchestra, the orchestra will also present Othello Suite by Samuel Coleridge-Taylor and Finlandia by Jean Sibelius, two powerful and evocative orchestral works.
This event promises an unforgettable evening of music, dance and artistic collaboration, celebrating both classical masterpieces and innovative new works. Students receiving the Los Alamos Symphony scholarship will be presented as well.
