LWV Lunch With A Leader Features Julianna Koob And Marshall Martinez Speaking On Reproductive Rights

LWV News:

This month’s League of Women Voters’ community event, Lunch with a Leader, features Julianna Koob and Marshall Martinez speaking on reproductive rights at 11:45 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 14 at Mesa Public Library.

Lunch With A Leader is the second Tuesday rather than third Tuesday of the month, this month only.

Koob and Martinez are speaking on real conversations about abortion and the way the Legislature fights in New Mexico. There will be updates and debriefs on the 2017 Legislative session with a focus on the strategies that win and ways that grassroots work are key.

Koob has fought to advance the rights of women and children for more than 25 years. She is particularly proud of her work to pass legislation increasing equity for girls in school sports programs, requiring equitable pay for women, and increasing services for victims of sexual assault.

Koob earned a Master’s of Social Work and a law degree, but credits survivors of domestic and sexual violence and women of color led organizations with the bulk of her education on women’s rights and systems change.

Martinez is a native New Mexican community organizer who has been working in social justice for 16 years. As the public affairs director, he works with the staff of Planned Parenthood organizers across the state to lift up and amplify the voices of Planned Parenthood supporters to impact policy and culture around reproductive health care. Martinez lives in Albuquerque with his partner Rudy.
