Masks Required At Senior Centers Starting Tuesday

LARSO NEWS:

The Los Alamos Retired and Senior Organization announces that starting Tuesday, May 31, masks are required to enter the Los Alamos or White Rock senior centers.

FREE masks and hand sanitizer are available at both locations, compliments of the Aging and Long-Term Services Department and the Area Agency on Aging.

Indoor dining also will be placed on hold for the week, but meals are available through the drive thru.

“I’m deeply sorry for the change of status,” LARSO Executive Director Bernadette Lauritzen said. “Many factors went into this, including the rising COVID-19 positive cases in Los Alamos, four positive cases in the senior center, the rise in cases after many end of the school year events/parties and a holiday weekend. We will look at the date on Friday and determine if this decision must be extended.”

Lauritzen reminds people that simply posting their COVID positive status on Facebook leave many senior citizens in the dark about possible exposure. Many local seniors do not utilize technology, or read their news in an online format. Lauritzen suggests if you believe you could have infected a senior, it is best to call them personally to make them aware. She also asks for grace for those senior volunteers and staff members that must just follow the rules.
