SANTA FE — Meow Wolf has been recognized in Fast Company’s annual list of the World’s Most Innovative Companies for 2022 as #3 in the Live Events category.
This is the company’s second time being selected for the prestigious list in the past three years.
This year’s selection honors businesses that are making the biggest impact on their industries and culture as a whole—ultimately thriving in today’s ever-changing world. These companies are creating the future today with some of the most inspiring accomplishments of the 21st century. In addition to the World’s 50 Most Innovative Companies, 528 organizations are recognized across 52 categories.
“To be ranked among the most innovative companies in the world is truly an honor,” Meow Wolf CEO Jose Tolosa said. “Meow Wolf has come a long way since our humble beginnings in 2008, but there is so much more we can’t wait to share. We believe that there is unlimited creativity everywhere you look—and much of it goes unrealized—but a commitment to community and collaboration will unlock experiences the world has yet to dream possible.”
Meow Wolf marked a high growth year in 2021, opening two new permanent installations in addition to upgrading and reopening their original installation, House of Eternal Return, in Santa Fe. Omega Mart opened in February in Las Vegas, Nev. and Convergence Station opened in September in Denver, Colo.
Meow Wolf has now welcomed more than 2,000,000 visitors across the three locations, and the company is now home to nearly 1,000 employees, hiring over 600 new roles in 2021. It also renewed its certification as a B-Corporation, growing a team dedicated to positive social impact and building a more inclusive and sustainable society through art and creativity.
For this year’s honors, Fast Company’s editors and writers sought out the most groundbreaking businesses across the globe and industries. They also judged nominations received through their application process.
The World’s Most Innovative Companies is Fast Company’s signature franchise and one of its most highly anticipated editorial efforts of the year. It provides both a snapshot and a road map for the future of innovation across the most dynamic sectors of the economy.
“The world’s most innovative companies play an essential role in addressing the most pressing issues facing society, whether they’re fighting climate change by spurring decarbonization efforts, ameliorating the strain on supply chains, or helping us reconnect with one another over shared passions,” Fast Company Deputy Editor David Lidsky said.
For the second year in a row, to coincide with the issue launch, Fast Company will host its Most Innovative Companies Summit April 26–27. The virtual, multi-day summit celebrates the Most Innovative Companies in business, and provides an early look at major business trends and an inside look at what it takes to innovate in 2022.
