Military Order Of The World Wars Honors Los Alamos County Fire Department Chief Troy L. Hughes For Outstanding Service To The Laboratory, The Community And The Nation

Members of the The MG Franklin E. Miles Chapter of the Military Order of the World Wars presented a special award Tuesday evening to Los Alamos Fire Chief Troy L. Hughes in recognition of his outstanding service to the Laboratory, the community and the nation:

Whereas: Troy Hughes started his fire service career in 1985 as a firefighter/EMT-B with the Grand Island, Nebraska Fire Department and rose through the ranks to become chief in 2008, and

Whereas: Chief Hughes was appointed to lead the Los Alamos County Fire Department in October 2011, and

Whereas: Chief Hughes led the Los Alamos County Fire Department which was one of the first five departments to be internationally accredited and also earned the ISO 1 classification, the highest available, and continues to hold it, and

Whereas: Chief Hughes is one of less than 1,000 fire service professionals in the United States that holds a Chief Fire Officer designation from the Commission on Professional Credentialing, and

Whereas: Chief Hughes leads a department that provides protection for national defense and industrial facilities including nuclear, radiological, chemical, biological, and explosive hazards at Los Alamos National Laboratory and the surrounding community, and

Whereas: Chief Hughes is now a consultant to aid many other fire departments within the U.S. Department of Energy  and many other communities to upgrade their departments to earn higher ISO classifications,

Therefore: The MG Franklin E. Miles Chapter of the Military Order of the World Wars presents this award to Los Alamos County Fire Department Chief Troy L. Hughes in recognition of his outstanding service to the Laboratory, the community, and the nation.
